Barry and Ruth love holidays and appreciate the extras that make a stay memorable.
“We've travelled to many countries and enjoyed 'their place'. We wanted to take time together to build 'our place'.”
Our dream was to create a French provencal styled home amongst fields of lavender and olives, and once created, to share this with others. Thus French Fields Bed and Breakfast was built and opened in 2009.
We searched New Zealand for the perfect setting and it was the beautiful Marlborough countryside with its abundant sunshine and Mediterranean - like climate that captured our hearts.
Marlborough is grape country...home to the famous Sauvignon Blanc and excellent Pinot Noit and Riesling wines. Here too are the Marlborough Sounds attracting sightseeing, boating tramping, fishing and delectable Marlborough salmon and mussels...
...has been a labour of love -with full hands on for Barry and Ruth ... from high up on the roof tops placing the clay tiles; from bagging the wide plaster walls; laying out the courtyards; building stone walls for the Folly and the Cottage shop.. to planting the over 3000 lavenders and 100 olive trees.
What an adventure!
"We harvested our first olives and lavender in 2009. If you are here at harvest time you are welcome to join us. The landscape and climate of this Marlborough wine and seafood paradise encourages a relaxed and satisfying lifestyle of natural simplicity. We are a small slice of 'French-flavoured 'country living and we promise a warm welcome at our Marlborough B&B near Blenheim."
